Encrypted NFC turns a signed guitar, stage-worn jacket or numbered print into an item that can prove where it came from.
Unique
Each chip carries its own identity.
Encrypted
Dynamic responses resist cloning.
Provenance
Where, when and by whom — recorded.
A chip with cryptographic features (such as NTAG 424 DNA) is fixed to the item. It breaks if removed.
How NFC works in a memorabilia: A tamper-evident tag fixed to a signed or stage-worn item. 1. Secure tag fitted. 2. Collector taps. 3. Authenticity checked. 4. Ownership transfers. Read the Memorabilia authentication guide
In short: Paper certificates of authenticity are easy to fake and easy to lose. A secure NFC chip attached to the item gives a tap-to-verify check plus a record of its history, from signing to resale.
Why memorabilia needs better proof
Signed and stage-used music items can be worth a lot, which makes them a target for fakes. Buyers often rely on paper certificates or a seller's reputation.
Secure NFC chips can generate a unique, cryptographically signed response on each tap. A copied URL or cloned basic tag won't pass that check.
What the provenance record can hold
Who signed or used the item, and at which event or show.
Photos or video of the signing.
Edition number and total edition size.
Ownership transfers when the item is sold on, if the owner chooses to register.
Tamper evidence
For high-value items, tamper-evident tags can show if the chip has been removed or moved to another object.
What a tap can unlock
Experience ideas
Tap-to-verify authenticity in front of a buyer
Signing-session video tied to the item

Exclusive content for owners of genuine items
Questions
Can an NFC chip be copied?
Basic tags can. Use secure chips that produce a new, signed response on every tap — that is what makes verification meaningful.
Does it replace experts?
It complements them. A chip proves the item is the one that was tagged; the tagging process must itself be trusted.
Can old items be tagged?
Yes, though provenance then starts at the date of tagging.
